Plumbing FAQs:
Can I do plumbing repairs by myself?
While some minor plumbing issues can be addressed with DIY solutions, it’s generally recommended to hire a professional plumber for repairs. Plumbing systems are complex, and improper repairs can lead to further damage and costly repairs down the line. Professional plumbers have the expertise, experience, and necessary tools to accurately diagnose and fix plumbing problems.
What should I do in case of a plumbing emergency?
In a plumbing emergency, the first step is to shut off the water supply to prevent further damage. Locate the main water shut-off valve in your property and turn it off. Then, contact us immediately to assess and resolve the issue. Jaguar Plumbing offer 24/7 emergency plumbing services for urgent situations.
How do I know if I have a hidden water leak?
Some common signs of a hidden water leak include unexplained increases in water bills, the sound of running water when no fixtures are in use, musty odors, damp spots or water stains on walls or ceilings, and the presence of mold or mildew. If you notice any of these signs, it’s advisable to have a professional leak detection service assess your property.
Do I need a professional to install a bathroom or can I do it myself?
While some individuals with DIY experience may be able to tackle small bathroom projects, it’s generally recommended to hire a professional for bathroom installations. Professionals have the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to ensure that all plumbing, electrical, and structural aspects are properly handled. They can also help with design advice, obtaining permits if necessary, and ensuring the installation meets building codes and regulations.
Heating FAQs:
What are some signs that my boiler needs repair?
Common signs that your boiler may need repair include:
- Frequent breakdowns or failures to heat properly.
- Unusual noises coming from the boiler.
- Leaks or dripping water.
- Reduced efficiency or higher energy bills.
- Uneven heating or cold spots in your home.
How often should I service my boiler?
It is recommended to have your boiler serviced annually to ensure its efficiency, safety, and reliability. Regular servicing can help identify any potential issues before they become major problems.
When is a power flush necessary?
A power flush may be necessary in the following situations:
- If you notice cold spots on radiators or reduced heat output.
- If you hear excessive noise, such as banging or gurgling sounds, from the heating system.
- If you experience frequent boiler breakdowns or circulation issues.
- If you are installing a new boiler and want to ensure a clean system for optimal performance.
How long does a boiler last?
The lifespan of a boiler depends on various factors, including its quality, usage, maintenance, and the type of boiler. On average, a well-maintained boiler can last between 10 and 15 years. However, some boilers can last even longer with proper care.
Drainage FAQs:
My bath is draining slowly. What does that mean?
There could be a localised blockage in the primary pipe work before it meets the SVP (soil vent pipe) or gully to which the bath will discharge. The solution would be to disconnect the pipe work and clean the trap out. A small spring machine could then be used to de-scale the pipe work through to the outfall.
What causes drains to block?
Drain blocks can be caused by a number of factors. To avoid drain blockages make sure you don’t put fat, hair, baby wipes, food scraps or cotton buds down your sink.
There is a terrible smell coming from my drains. What could it be?
Smells may be overcome by removing all deposited matter from the gully grid and trap. (If you attempt this, use a mechanical aid rather than your hand). Strong disinfectants can help to discourage odours in the first place. However very often we find the cause is a build up of (fat, oil and grease). If there’s evidence of this, we would strongly advise that the drains are de-scaled professionally via HPWJ. Good housekeeping (‘bag it and bin it’ rather than wash it down the drain) is the best preventive measure against odours — and potential blockages too.
Am I responsible for clearing the overflowing manhole on my drive?
The pipe from the manhole chamber, if it serves a single dwelling, is the sole responsibility of the householder. The pipeline is what’s known as a transferred asset (ie belongs to your water and sewerage company) if it’s outside the curtilage of your dwelling or at the point where it becomes a shared sewer (with another property).
